‘The Human Centipede’ and The ‘Red Riding’ Trilogy Find US Distribution!
When I first saw the early stills for Tom Six’s new (and apparently extremely disturbing) body-horror flick The Human Centipede something immediately went haywire inside of me. When I realized what it was that I was looking at I couldn’t contain my excitement and overwhelming fear of this film, and now thanks to its incredible reception at festivals across the nation in 09, this gruesome masterpiece has been picked up by IFC Films for United States distribution “sometime” in 2010. It will likely have a limited theatrical run in some of the smaller arthouse cinemas throughout the country, but IFC are also going to release it on Video On Demand for our at-home viewing pleasure! Technology is a marvelous thing if it means I can watch a truly brilliant film in my own home on the same day as its theatrical release (assuming that the closest theatre playing it will be nowhere near me). Check out the synopsis below and a link to some rather intriguing clips at the bottom. I should warn you though THE VIDEO CLIPS ARE DISTURBING, it took me a minute to figure out what was going on, and when it struck me, well… you’ll just have to see for yourself.
via QueitEarth: Internationally respected Siamese twin surgeon Dr. Josef Heiter has a demented vision for mankind’s future existence. He wants to remove human beings’ kneecaps so they have to exist on all fours and then surgically graft them mouth-to-anus to form a centipede chain. When two stranded female Americans arrive at his luxury home-cum-hospital looking for help, his long-gestating plan swiftly moves into chilling action with a shocking force. Kidnapping a third Japanese male tourist he begins the tissue matches, teeth removal and buttock moulding to create his triplet creature.
Also being released by IFC Films in the upcoming year is the critically acclaimed Red Riding Trilogy (1974, 1980, 1983). Based on a series of grim, brutal novels by David Peace, the trilogy tells the true-life story of Peter Sutcliffe (aka The Yorkshire Ripper) and examines the course of his brutal killings in northwest England as he terrorized not only his victims, but the politicians and investigators responsible for catching him. Red Riding is said to be an epic neo-noir that takes on a life of its own as it gives an in depth look at human nature, stepping far outside the conventions of an average crime drama. The three films are directed by three very talented directors, all of whom have a good deal of experience with the festival world and received a great deal of praise for their other works. Julian Jarrold, director of Brideshead Revisited, tackled the first part of the trilogy, followed by James Marsh, the man behind the astounding documentary Man On Wire, and then the series is finished off by Anand Tucker, director of the indie hit Shopgirl. The Red Riding Trilogy is set to release on February 5th, 2010 in theatres and on Video On Demand. IFC has also released a pretty awesome new poster and a theatrical trailer for the film.
